Use Spotlight as a Database

macosxhints has an article about using Spotlight as a Database:
….since Spotlight will index the contents of files on your hard drive, we can leverage this in a brute-force kluge to get some information on our interesting documents….
Could be very useful if you take what they are discussing and apply it to your genealogy documents.

There are now nine known active genealogy applications for the Mac platform (that we know of):
Family Ties (Familienbande), a free genealogy application from Stefan Mettenbrink for Mac OS X (and probably MacOS 8.6+ and MacOS 9.x+ with Carbon) and Windows. This was updated in August. Right now it’s only in German. The official site is: www.familienbande-genealogie.de and the download is here: www.familienbande-genealogie.de/download.htm

New iMac, iPod with video
Apple has released some new products today, one being a heavily updated iMac G5, the other a new iPod capable of playing videos (including a video-out feature to play on your TV).
Now you can take your home movies with you to your next family gathering. No more slide trays, no more VCRs (or DVD players). Just fin da TV with video input, plug in the cables, and go.
Reunion Source Usage Report -> FileMaker, Text
October 11, 2005 by admin · Leave a Comment
Tom Robinson released two AppleScript applications last month that deal with Reunion’s Source Usage Report, and converting it into either a text file that can be read into other applications, or importing it into a FileMaker databse.
This AppleScript populates a FileMaker database with Reunion’s Source Usage Report.
This AppleScript converts the report to tab delimited text file (for import into a spreadsheet).
