Transcriva

Transcriva 1.0, from Bartas Technologies, recently came out. For those of you who haven’t heard about it, it’s a new audio transcription program for Mac OS X 10.3 or later. More than a few genealogists do interviews with family members and the like, while making audio recordings of them, and this allows you to easily produce an accurate transcript (including RTF).

Product Description:

Dictaphones are yesterday’s news. Transcriva turns the mechanical chore of transcribing audio recordings into text into a natural, fluid process using the power of Mac OS X. The unique chat-like interface produces a clean, concise transcript whether you’re transcribing a single speaker’s dictation or the Board’s meeting minutes. Transcriva accepts most any audio format supported by Apple QuickTime. Add a clip, press play, and start typing – the only thing easier is making someone else do it for you!

PAWriter II “combines most of the features of the LDS Personal Ancestral File program (PAF) for the Macintosh with additional features that generate web pages (in HTML), word processing files (in RTF for, e.g., AppleWorks) and desktop publishing files (in MML for FrameMaker). The generated report files include genealogical dictionaries, registers, ahnentafels and lineages—such as appear on this site—as well as some interesting text files and pedigree charts. It requires Mac OS 8.6/9.0, or Mac OS X.

GedWise 6.3 for Mac OS X – Beta

November 26, 2005 by admin · Leave a Comment

As mentioned back in August, Battery Park Software was working on a Mac OS X version of GedWise (MobileGenealogy.com). GedWise is a Palm OS based genealogy database/application, for carrying your genealogy information in an easy-to-browse format.

You can download it and try it from Battery Park Software’s Download page.

Required: Palm OS 3.3 or higher with at least 512 KB of available RAM.

If you have a Palm, even if you don’t plan on using GedWise, it would be great if you could download it, and at least try out the installer and give them any feedback you have, as they, along with My Roots, are the only PalmOS genealogy applications with Mac OS X support.

MacPAF Update (November 2005)

November 26, 2005 by admin · Leave a Comment

Good news, it looks like there might be a public beta test of MacPAF by the end of the year.

According to the MacPAF Blog, I’ve mostly been working on getting the individual and family lists so you can search and sort them. Then I should be ready to do some final touch-up on the interface, and start doing some testing to make sure everything saves and updates properly. I know there’s a few places I still have to fix there, and they should have a public beta out by the new year, if not sooner.
