There is an install note that applies to Mac users: “For everyone not using the windows installer: create a base-directory for GenJ – every downloaded archive has to be unzipped into that same directory while preserving directory structure. To start GenJ execute one of the ‘run’-scripts included in the distribution.”. I have run GenealogyJ/GenJ in the past under Mac OS X and it ran just fine.

GRAMPS stands for “Genealogical Research and Analysis Management Programming System”, and is a genealogy program written for Linux and other Unix-like systems (the various *BSDs, etc.), and can be run under Mac OS X with X11 (installed with OS X or off of the OS X CDs/DVDs).

GRAMPS is a genealogy program for Linux and other UNIX-like systems. The GRAMPS name stands for Genealogical Research and Analysis Management Programming System.

GRAMPS helps you track your family tree. It allows you to store, edit, and research genealogical data. GRAMPS attempts to provide all of the common capabilities of other genealogical programs, but, more importantly, to provide an additional capability of integration not common to these programs. This is the ability to input any bits and pieces of information directly into GRAMPS and rearrange/manipulate any/all data events in the entire data base (in any order or sequence) to assist the user in doing research, analysis and correlation with the potential of filling relationship gaps.

This is a major release concerning reports – with 2.0.6, the Web Page Genearation has been enhanced (you can see a sample here concerning narratives).

Hog Bay Software has released Hog Bay Notebook 3.5 (164). This fixes an issue withnew notebooks failing to save under Mac OS X 10.4. Requires Mac OS X 10.3 or later. Note:According to postings in the Hog Bay Notebook forums, Spotlight capabilities are going to be integrated into the next major release, which the author is currently working on. This would allow youto search individual entries in your notebook(s) through Spotlight.
