Family Tree Maker 3 (Mac) Version 22.2.4

Family Tree Maker 3 for Mac Technically it’s version 22.2.4.781 or 22.2.4.782 (depending on whether you are installing from Ancestry.com or from Apple’s Mac App Store), but a major new version of Family Tree Maker 3 was recently released.

I haven’t had a chance to go through it yet, but the additions are very welcome, including pictures in genealogy reports, plus removing generation lines in said reports. Also there is a manage historical facts option, and improved timeline reports.

It should be noted that the new file formats/database are now compatible with Family Tree Maker 2014 (Windows) and their recent updates from November and December – Service Patch #4 SP4 (Build 340) and Service Patch #5 SP5 (build 345).

It does Sync with MyHeritage, and has all of the normal features that Windows users of MyHeritage.com have in Family Tree Builder, with a few exceptions: maps, note formatting, book reports (offline), and right-to-left languages. These are most likely due to compatibility issues with the underlying Windows system files (see my notes below).

MacBridge for RootsMagic 6 Announced

MacBridge for RootsMagic Two major announcements for fans of RootsMagic – one, as has been mentioned/hinted at in the past, the folks behind RootsMagic are working on an OS X-native version of RootsMagic, the popular Windows genealogy program.

The other major announcement, one that concerns the here and now, is that they have released MacBridge for RootsMagic, a utility that allows you to run the Windows version of RootsMagic 6 on top of OS X without the need for a virtual machine (such as Parallels Desktop or VMWare Fusion) or a WINE or CrossOver environment/layer. It does use the native filesystem of your Mac. It’s on sale for $9.95 (normally $14.95).

This is welcome news for those RootsMagic fans who are wanting to switch to Macs, and who don’t want to go through a full install of Windows, or deal with compatibility layers/emulators.
