Mellel 2.0 and Mellel Spotlight Plugin

Mellel 2.0, the word processor from RedleX, has been released. Mellel is one of the leading word processors for Mac OS X, with a special focus on scholars, writers, technical writing and multilingual word processing. A lot of genealogists use it because of the above advertised features -if you’re writing formal genealogy documents/books, the formatting, footnote/endnote, citation, and layout features are a big plus. Version 2.0 is a major update, and requires Mac OS X 10.2.

The Mellel Spotlight Plugin is just that – a plugin for Mac OS X 10.4’s Spotlight, that makes Mellel documents searchable.

Languages/Localisations: Danish, Dutch, English, Esperanto, German, Italian, Portuguese (Brazilian) Romanian, Russian, Spanish, Swedish. Several more are set to be released soon.

Some of the new features and updates include: Enhanced RTF support (images/graphics), extensive support for columns and sections, speed improvements, Table improvements, and many others (see http://www.mellel.com/releasenotes.html for full list).

WikiNotes

WikiNotes, a new note-taking application, has been released. Wikinotes is free/open-source, and requires Mac OS X 10.4+.

SlipBox 0.5.1

SlipBox 0.5.1 is now available. It does interface with BibDesk, an application we’ve mentioned in the past (bibliography manager).

GlobalBooks 0.2.3

GlobalBooks 0.2.3 is now available. GlobalBooks is a “freeware application designed to serve as a bibliographic information utility”. This version adds BibTeX Export, as well as fixing some bugs.

Records Manager 2.1

John Woodward has released Records Manager 2.1

Records Manager is MacOS X software that allows you to collect important records (such as bank statements or receipts) in a database and allow for easy addition of new records, easy access to existing records, and optional automatic backup of the database. Think of it as a replacement for a file cabinet but with easier filing and retrieval.

This requires Mac OS X 10.2.8 or higher, and is $24 should you decide to use it.
