I’ve went through the and have pruned a lot of users (1500+). Many of these go back to 2005 and %85 had not logged on in the past 12 months.

As a result, if you had not logged on in over a year, just create a new account.

If you have posted or have been active in the past year, and you’re having problems logging in, please contact me. There is a possibility that in the conversion process, some accounts may have been reset.

Version 2.251 was released a few days ago. Version 2.252 adds CSV file generation for importing genealogy data into spreadsheets.

It can be downloaded at iFamilyForTiger.com

What’s New in version 2.251:
Story Pane
Added a button to automatically generate a Story for the currently selected person. There are many 30 user defined options (so far).

Ancestors and Descendants Diagrams
Added more colour options for the Ancestors and Descendants diagrams.

Additions/Fixes in version 2.252:
People Index
Added a button called “Generate Csv File” that creates a comma separated values (csv) file which can then be loaded into a spreadsheet application. The people included are those currently displayed in the Filtered/Sorted list of people in the table in the People Index panel.

Colors- Bug
Corrected a bug that occurred when choosing CYMK or Grayscale colors in the Color Panels. This bug has only been reported by one user. If you are using V2.250 or V2.251 and you get an error message that says something like “An exception occurred in iFamily V2.251 in CdDiagram.m : drawRect_1 at line 761″ and the error message also mentions a problem with colors then you need to: (a) delete the file called com.kswa.iFamilyForTiger.plist that is in folder xxxxx /Library /Preferences, where xxxxx is your Home directory, and (b) restart iFamily for Tiger and then (c) download V2.252.

iFamily for Tiger is a Mac OS X (OS X 10.4+ required) genealogy application that focuses on individuals rather than families. You can download it here (iFamilyForTiger.com)

iFamily for Tiger version 2.250 has been released.

iFamily for Tiger is a Mac OS X (OS X 10.4+ required) genealogy application that focuses on individuals rather than families. You can download it here (iFamilyForTiger.com)

Changes/Updates in version 2.250:
Sources Pane
* When you click on a Source-Reference (a Citation) and then invoke the Source dialog it will automatically preselect the Source that is relevant to the currently selected Source-Reference.
* Corrected a bug that caused incorrect display of Source-References in the Sources pane after a Source-Reference had been deleted elsewhere within iFamily.
* Added a button to enable direct referencing to the Active Source.

* Import Pictures - Prebuild All Thumbnails: The Import Pictures function now allows the user to Prebuild All Thumbnails. Although this takes a few minutes it results in faster response later because thumbnails do not have to be created on-the-fly. If you are importing a large number of pictures (1000’s) then you may like to take a coffee break while the thumbnails are being created.

* Thumbnails - instant display regardless of database size: A minor database change has been made to improve response when a database contains thousands of thumbnail images. Display of thumbnail images will now be instantaneous regardless of the size of your database or the type of processor in your machine (Intel vs PPC).

* Context diagram: The user can now set the colour gradient in the Context Diagram

Changes/Updates in version 2.245:

* Colours: The user can now decide the colours to be used for the main window frame/toolbar and the modal dialogs and sheets.
* Context Diagram: The mini pictures for each person in the Context Diagram can now be left clicked to invoke the Picture Editor.

The Active Source Function
A Source may now be made the Active Source. As you add new people or events iFamily then automatically adds a reference to the current Active Source. In the confirmation dialog you can add a Page Ref, Topic or Notes that are specific to that Source Reference (Citation).

The user work-flow is as follows:
Step 1. You find a new Source Document - eg a Marriage Certificate, a Census document, a Shipping List, a Family Bible, ….
Step 2. You create a new Source and make it the Active Source.
Step 3. You add people and events from the source document to your database, in the Context Diagram or in the Family/Events panes. As you add each new person or event a new Source Reference (Citation) is created and you can then add the relevant Page No, Topic, or Notes in the pop-up panel.

At any time you may deactivate the Active Source or select another (existing) Source to be the next Active Source.

If you have have existing people that need to be referenced to the Active Source you simply right click on them in the Context Diagram and select the pop-up menu item called Add a Reference to the Active Source. The keyboard shortcut for this menu item is the key “R” without a modifier key.

If you have have existing events that need to be referenced to the Active Source you right click on them in the Events pane and select the pop-up menu item called Add a Reference to the Active Source.

* Events Dates Editor: Added an Events Dates editor to allow the user to quickly correct dates imported from Gedcom files. The main reason for this new function is because some Gedcom files can contain dates that are free format and do not conform to any recognised standard.
* Ancestors and Descendants Diagrams: Added a right click pop-up menu item to “Contract around the bloodline to the root person”.
* Todo Dialog: Added a Clear button
* Import from Gedcom: Corrected a minor error introduced in V2.235 related to handling accented European characters.

Big News. Really Big News.

First up: Synium has acquired MacFamilyTree:

Since version 3, MacFamilyTree has been developed by the Synium Software GmbH. Now, with version 5, we completely acquire the project in its entirety from OnlyMac Software, including development, distribution and support. Our long-standing experience within the Mac software market and especially with MacFamilyTree makes for a solid foundation in delivering reliable feature updates, continued support, quick bug-fixes and a true long-term perspective for your favorite genealogy tool.

Next: MacFamilyTree 5.0
They are making the claim that MacFamilyTree 5 is the most advanced genealogy software for the Mac.

Features of MacFamilyTree 5.0
* Brand new GUI (individually configurable)
* Completely re-written
* Apple’s Core Data technology is used to work with large databases that include: “information about tens of thousands of individuals, including digitized photographic images, sound files and movies”
* “Family Assistant” that is used to “graphically create” your family tree, including a fully animated editor that visualizes relationships.
* Still “fully compliant with GEDCOM import and export”
* Built-in graphics editor similar to a desktop publishing program for creating layouts of your genealogy data.
* World map replaced by a spherical earth - On the globe you can retrace the paths of your ancestors, aided by a huge database of locations worlwide and satellite imagery.
* HTML Export, for both standalone, hosted, and .Mac websites improved (including saved views being published with your HTML pages)
* Reports can now be modified and saved within the family tree.

Synium has posted a visual history of MacFamilyTree

A pre-release version of MacFamilyTree 5 will be available in the coming weeks. MacFamilyTree 5 will be a free update for those who have purchased MacFamilyTree 4 on or after August 14, 2007 or who have bought MacFamilyTree 4 as a boxed retail version from the Apple Store.

In the meantime, you can view the sneak preview of MacFamilyTree 5 here.

OurTreePro is a single or multi-user genealogy database (including deployment through FileMaker Server 9). It’s currently based on GEDCOM 5.5 standards, however he is working moving towards GenXML (which allows for a lot more flexibility when it comes to storing information/data).

Some of the features that were added and/or will be possible since he has moved to FileMaker include:

Direct integration with SQL databases used in web-based genealogy applications like TNG (The Next Generation of Genealogy Sitebuilding) will be possible using FileMaker 9’s SQL database integration. Publishing a web site will no longer require tedious maintenance of separate data stores. Use OurTreePro to maintain your genealogy research, and have it automatically connect to your TNG web site and update the SQL databases instantly.

Image handling and direct scanner integration will allow you to go from photograph directly to your genealogy data. Handle and sort documents, headstone markers, photos, and anything that you can scan with ease! OurTreePro™ is a very VISUAL experience.

He is looking for assistance on testing against various GEDCOM files:

I need some hlep! Even though my own GedCom file has about 1550 individuals and almost 500 families, I need to test the GedCom file import function on as many real GedCom files as possible. If you would like to participate in a small way in developing OurTreePro™ by sending me your own, real GedCom files, it would be most appreciated.

All information that you submit to me is private and and will be destroyed at the end of testing. Please use the ‘Contact Me’ page to let me know that you are interested. I’ll respond as quickly as possible.
