A few weeks ago I mentioned some new details and screenshots about the upcoming Heredis for Mac.
Sometime this month they should be going into beta testing of the new Heredis. What I did not realize, was that they were also moving into iOS genealogy apps with new Heredis.
This is a very rough quote using Google’s machine translation, of this month’s Heredis newsletter. I’ve tried to correct the grammar/phrasing where possible.
Heredis calls for volunteers to test versions of iPhone and iPad….
That’s it. The info is official. I can already hear the cries!! Of “Ahhhh! “The” Ohhhh! “The” Yay! “And even” It’s about time! “.
Heredis is proposing a version of its software on iPhone and iPad. We will not say anymore for now, so that the suspense continues until the official release that is scheduled for later in 2012!
So if you have an iPhone (iPhone 3G minimum) or iPad (or know someone who has and who does not necessarily participate in genealogy), if you want to go on an exciting adventure and if you want to discover a preview of what will be Heredis iOS, I invite you to send me your nominations by email to audrey.cavalier (at) bsdconcept.com mentioning the following information:
– Email address
– Specifications of your test tool
– Your motivation
Unfortunately, we can not accept all applications, as a beta test is limited to meet with a representative sample of the population of genealogists.
You will see, the genealogy will change..
Heredis will be joining Synium – MacFamilyTree, Leister Pro – Reunion, ohmiGene, and Family Tree Maker for Mac 2 as Mac OS X genealogy applications that also have iOS versions or spinoffs.
You can read the original newsletter in French.
Synium Software has updated MacFamilyTree to version 6.2.9. MacFamilyTree 6 is a Mac OS X genealogy application, which also syncs up with MobileFamilyTree Pro on iOS devices.
From what I can see, it’s just one bug fix:
“Fixed a bug preventing images to show up correctly.”
Current MacFamilyTree 6.x users can automatically update the next time they load MacFamilyTree (if it’s set) or they can click on the MacFamilyTree menu and select “Check for Updates”. If you purchased it through Apple’s Mac App Store, it should also be available through Apple’s Mac App Store Update feature.
It can also be purchased through Apple’s Mac App Store.
Update: MacFamilyTree 8 – Synium Software GmbH is currently only available as a new purchase.
There is a new version of ohmiGene Lite that has been released. ohmiGene Lite is a commercial genealogy application.
The previous version of ohmiGene Lite that I had was 5.10.1. There have been some interim releases that were not officially released in the 5.10.x series, and the public release was 5.24.4.
It’s dated to 3 April 2012 (yesterday), and it does show up in the automatic software update for ohmiGene.
Changes in ohmiGene Lite 5.24.4 (based on Google’s Machine Translation)
– Image editing has received a major upgrade.
– Changes in media management when exporting GEDCOM files.
– I believe some of the views/user interface has changed.
– When mousing over the list, if you hold the ALT key, a preview is generated of that individual.
– Navigation tree (Ascending/5 Generations) has been improved/extended to 6 generations
– Tooltips have been improved
– A bug fix with some commands/characters
– Descendant/Descent Books have been fixed
– A notes problem in 5.10.2 was fixed.
– User interface changes involving photos and notes.
Please Note: I may have misunderstood some of the above changes.
You can download the trial/demo version here.
Mac OS X 10.4 and later is required.
GedScape came to my attention back when I was writing some articles about GEDCOM files, and the conversion of Unicode/UTF-8 GEDCOMs on Macs. Actually that’s only partly true – I had been aware of it for a while, but I didn’t have the time to fully explore it and get a proper writeup on MacGenealogy.org. When I began looking at GEDCOM files on Macs, it took center stage, since it’s the only utility like it that exists.
I can’t stress this enough – it is not genealogy software for a mac like say MacFamilyTree or Family Tree Maker for Mac 2. Don’t download this software and think it’s going to be an all-in-one genealogy solution for you. It has very specific goals and a very specific audience.
With that said, it meets those goals and should satisfy that audience, not just because it’s the only GEDCOM utility like it for Mac OS X.
Read the GedScape Review.

It can also be purchased through Apple’s Mac App Store. Update: MacFamilyTree 8 – Synium Software GmbH is currently only available as a new purchase.
Adobe has posted a public beta of ADobe Photoshop CS6 – March 21, 2012. The Photoshop CS6 beta covers both Photoshop CS6 and Photoshop CS6 Extended – keep in mind that Extended has additional features that the normal Photoshop doesn’t have, such as 3D image editing.
Update – it is a 60-day trial edition.
Just over a month ago, I posted about a video that Adobe posted concerning Photoshop CS6’s Content Aware features. That’s one of many new or upgraded features.
Features of Photoshop CS6
– Aforementioned Content-Aware upgrades, such as “Content-Aware Patch”
– Increased performance from the “Mercury Graphics Engine”
– Upgraded User Interface, a “modern UI”
– “New and re-engineered design tools.”
