  1. Really, no upgrade for current users? We have to pay the same price as everyone else buying it for the first time? Not cool.

  2. That $29.99 is the discounted/upgrade price through the Mac App Store. Normally it’s $59.99 for first-time buyers and $29.99 for upgrades, but they are extending the upgrade price to everybody through the end of July.

    Update: From Synium:

Until July 31st 2013, MacFamilyTree 7 and MobileFamilyTree 7 are offered for upgrade prices for everyone. This means that you can purchase MacFamilyTree 7 for just $29.99 and MobileFamilyTree 7 for just $7.99 by following the buy links below. This price is valid for everyone, regardless if you own a previous version or not.
The Mac App Store does not support different prices for one app so we decided to offer upgrade pricing for everyone.

Please note that after July 31st 2013, upgrades are no longer possible at a discounted price. Afterwards, the full price of $59.99 and $14.99 will apply. MacFamilyTree 7 and MobileFamilyTree 7 are available exclusively at the Mac App Store and iTunes App Store. MacFamilyTree is no longer offered through other distribution channels because Apple only allows iCloud implementation for software sold on the Mac App Store.

The Apple App Store has no mechanism to charge an “Upgrade” price.

  4. From Developer of MacFamilyTree: We cannot discount individual customers on the Mac App Store. It is not possible to give some users a discount (for example those who own Version 6 or 5) and others not.

We had to make the decision if we offer no upgrade discount at all or if we give the discount to everyone. So we opted to give the discount to everybody.
