In an update to Mellel 2.0, a Mac OS X word processor ( read about it here), Mellel 2.0.1 addresses a problem with running on older versions of Mac OS X – Mellel 2.0.1 will run on Mac OS X 10.2.

Mellel 2.0 and Mellel Spotlight Plugin

Mellel 2.0, the word processor from RedleX, has been released. Mellel is one of the leading word processors for Mac OS X, with a special focus on scholars, writers, technical writing and multilingual word processing. A lot of genealogists use it because of the above advertised features -if you’re writing formal genealogy documents/books, the formatting, footnote/endnote, citation, and layout features are a big plus. Version 2.0 is a major update, and requires Mac OS X 10.2.

The Mellel Spotlight Plugin is just that – a plugin for Mac OS X 10.4’s Spotlight, that makes Mellel documents searchable.

Languages/Localisations: Danish, Dutch, English, Esperanto, German, Italian, Portuguese (Brazilian) Romanian, Russian, Spanish, Swedish. Several more are set to be released soon.

Some of the new features and updates include: Enhanced RTF support (images/graphics), extensive support for columns and sections, speed improvements, Table improvements, and many others (see http://www.mellel.com/releasenotes.html for full list).

There is a story up on the Deseret News about software that could allow people to generate websites with “fictional” family trees for advertising purposes. Hopefully most people don’t automatically accept what they see on the internet as being fact.

Wordperfect Spotlight Plugin 1.0.2 – WP Spotlight Plug-in 1.0.2 for Mac OS X from version 10.4 enables Spotlight search for files created by WordPerfect from version 2.1, including their contents. Universal binary.
* Now supports indexing footnotes and endnotes.

Bookends 8.1.3 (Current version is 12.x) – Bookends offers a powerful and flexible means of saving, retrieving, and formatting references for bibliographies or footnotes.
