Family Tree Maker Deluxe Edition II for Macintosh
Mac Enthusiasts Can Now Preserve and Organize Their Family History With The No. 1-Selling Family Tree Program
FREMONT, Calif. Feb. 4, 1997
Family Tree Maker(tm) will soon be available for the Power Macintosh(r)! Family Tree Maker, the best-selling family tree software for IBM-compatibles, has earned that position because it actually helps you find your ancestors. Its FamilyFinder(tm) Index of 115 million names helps you instantly identify which historical records include information on your own relatives. Plus, the software links directly to www.familytreemaker.com, where thousands of Family Tree Maker users work together on tracing their family trees.
Not only does Family Tree Maker help you quickly find invaluable details about your family, it allows you to enjoy and preserve your heritage. Catalog the details for each person, and embellish your family file with cherished family stories. Then, include those facts and stories in beautiful printed family trees and custom reports. Create these heirloom-quality printouts with your choice of borders, fonts, styles, and information, are a perfect way to share the information you’ve collected with other family members.
A Macintosh version has been one of the most frequently requested “new features” for Family Tree Maker. “The Macintosh community has been craving a family tree program that will preserve their family information and help them find new details about their ancestors. Many families are looking for a program that will allow them to share files easily, even if some members are working on the Macintosh and some on the Windows platform. The new Macintosh version of Family Tree Maker accomplishes all of this,” said Alma Rodoni, President of the Banner Blue Division of Broderbund Software.
Many people don’t have the time or energy to visit libraries for weeks on end, or the patience to tolerate long delays for results from expensive genealogy search services. Tracing your family tree is both much faster and much easier with Family Tree Maker. Its FamilyFinder Index lists over 115 million individuals who appear in state and federal records, plus the World Family Tree(tm). Since the FamilyFinder is included free on your CD, you can perform unlimited searches to quickly identify the records that include your relatives. Detailed information from the records indexed by the FamilyFinder is available in Broderbund’s collection of Family Archive CDs. This incredible resource – numbering over 60 CDs and growing – is the largest collection of genealogical data available on CD-ROM and is fully compatible with the new Macintosh version.
Family Tree Maker Deluxe Edition II also includes four of the most popular Family Archive CDs: the Social Security Death Index and two World Family Tree CDs. The Social Security discs include important vital statistics (name, birth and death dates, Social Security number) you need to begin your research on relatives who have died since 1937.
The included World Family Tree CDs are the first two CDs resulting from the World Family Tree Project. This ongoing project gives family history enthusiasts the opportunity to contribute their own family tree to be placed on CD-ROM as a starting point for other researchers. A customer who uses the CD and finds a family member in one of the World Family Trees can potentially uncover an entire branch of their family tree. Then, they can use the free online Submitter Information Service to get the name and address of the person who contributed that original tree. Since both people are tracing the same family line, they often turn out to be distant cousins!
Family Tree Maker Online(tm) – located at www.familytreemaker.com – creates a virtual community of family history enthusiasts who help each other trace their family trees. Find other people with information on a specific family line, or knowledge on a certain location or topic, by posting unlimited classified ads (free to Family Tree Maker for Macintosh owners until 1998). With thousands of people accessing Family Tree Maker Online every day, both browsing and performing detailed name searches, you are likely to get help from someone. Or, answer a classified and share your expertise! Creating your own home page with information on your family is another way to share information – just fill out an online form with the details, choose your preferred design, and Family Tree Maker will do the rest! You might even find your ancestors among the 3,000-plus home pages currently housed on the site.
Family Tree Maker owners also get exclusive access to free genealogy message boards. These message boards offer the perfect forum to share research tips, techniques, questions, and ideas. They’re a terrific way to tap into the collective experience of thousands of family history enthusiasts. Thousands of messages are posted on topics ranging from using Family Tree Maker to doing research in Europe to general genealogy hints. Plus, you can perform a sitewide search to quickly identify all classifieds, messages, home pages, and other information on your own family members that’s available on the site.
