iFamily for Tiger v2.211

iFamily for Tiger v2.211 was released today. It’s a Mac OS X (10.4+) genealogy program and this release (along with v2.210) contains a number of additions and enhancements to the Ancestors and Descendants Diagrams.

Changes:
The Ancestors and Descendants diagrams have been enhanced (as per V2.210)
* Customisable user defaults, factory defaults, overridden defaults
* Options to include full name, Id, birth, death, marriages and notes
* Options for colors of text strings and background
* Names only option - an overview mode
* Multi-line text fields
* Improved scrunching
* Improved pagination for printing
* Box nudging (in vertical mode only)
* When you invoke the Ancestors or Descendants diagrams the number of generations will automatically default to 5 generations
* The generations stepper will auto-repeat when the Names Only mode is active
* Added summary info to mini personal details floating dialog

Ancestors and Descendants Diagrams (V2.211)
* Added a timeline across the top of the window (horizontal mode).
* Added display of “Refer Above” when branches are repeated, e.g. when cousins marry.
* Corrected memory management to avoid the spinning beach-ball when displaying large diagrams.
* Changed the generations indicator in the toolbar to be an editable field to avoid having expand/contract by one generation at a time using the stepper.

Main Menu (V2.211)
* Added menu options for Attach Existing Person as Parent /Spouse /Child. A number of people have asked how to do this so the existing Right Click pop-up menu was obviously not intuitive.

MacFamilyTree 4.4.8

MacFamilyTree 4.4.8 is now available. MacFamilyTree is a Mac OS X genealogy application that can also utilize data from other Mac OS X applications (iPhoto, Google Earth, etc.).

Changes:
* Support for dates before christ: MacFamilyTree now interprets dates with the prefix “BC” as dates before christ.
* Pictures and other media are now exported if assigned to a person event when exporting a web site
* Bug fixed which caused the HTML export to crash while exporting trees with many large pictures

OurTreePro v0.2b Beta

Ron Smith posted that he’s working on v0.2b of OurTreePro. OurTreePro is a cross-platform (Windows and Mac) genealogy application that can run in both single user and multi-user environments, with possible real-time integration through FileMaker Server Advanced.

He’s also included a screenshot of the main interface (I’ve posted it here, you can view more screenshots at the official site (login required)). He can’t say much about 0.2b right now, but he has posted information about his plans beyond the v0.1b1 beta here.

Despite the very short time that version v0.1b1 has been up, some very important developments have occurred. These have caused a sudden lurch forward to v0.2b. The main screen shot is available for viewing with the v0.1b screenshot images. I encourage everyone to take a look at all the screen shots.

The downside of version v0.2b is that presently I will be UNABLE to post this version as a download, due to a binding contractual non-disclosure agreement.

The current beta v0.1b1 will continue to be available. Though I won’t be developing on that version further, I still covet your constructive input.

The New Digital Darkroom - Macworld

Since most of us have found ourselves dealing with a lot of photos, both digital and physical, Macworld has put together a really good article, The new digital darkroom, that briefly covers Adobe Lightroom, and Apple iPhoto and Aperture.

It delves into organizing and managing your photos, as well as publishing (slide shows, printing, web pages, etc.). It also looks at where Photoshop fits into the scheme of things.

Mac Notepad 4.4

Mac Notepad 4.4 is available. Mac Notepad is a Mac OS X (Mac OS X 10.2 required) application that allows you to manage and edit text data, similar to journaling software. It also allows you to export and import from iPod Notes, another application from Apimac that stores text information on your iPod. You can password-protect your information if you feel the need to.

This release adds the “new Valentina database 3 engine” as well as includes minor interface tweaks.
